Frequently Asked Questions

Are outside catering services permitted at Independence Harbor?
No. Independence Harbor does require that all food (except wedding cakes) be purchased through Independence Harbor. Wedding cakes, cupcakes etc. must be provided by licensed professionals.  Please review our Preferred Vendors list for more information.  All beverages must also be purchased through Independence Harbor.


Can we arrive early at Independence Harbor to take photographs?

Because Independence Harbor assures complete privacy for each event, and because the outdoor facilities as well as the indoor facilities must be in complete readiness before any guests may enter the venue, early arrivals (including wedding parties) are limited.


For weddings including an on-site wedding ceremony, the Wedding Couple and their Wedding Party Attendants may arrive at Independence Harbor one hour prior to the scheduled ceremony time for a private photography session. Wedding guests may arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled ceremony time and will be directed to their ceremony seats upon arrival. Food and beverage services will commence immediately at the close of the wedding ceremony.


For Wedding Receptions with off-site wedding ceremonies, Wedding Couples and Wedding Party Attendants may arrive at Independence Harbor 30 minutes prior to the scheduled reception start time. Wedding guests may arrive at the scheduled reception start time. Food and beverage services will commence at the scheduled reception start time.

Accommodations for "First Look" photography prior to an on-site wedding ceremony may be available at an additional fee.

Does Independence Harbor do outdoor receptions?

One of the greatest features of Independence Harbor is its blend of outdoor and indoor services. Our gardens and grounds are a magical setting for Outdoor Wedding Ceremonies. Certainly there is nothing more elegant than serving cocktails or wines and appetizers to your guests, as they gather on the expansive patio after you've exchanged your vows on the gazebo, or upon arrival at Independence Harbor from your church ceremony. Independence Harbor does not serve dinners outside. All dinners, buffet, full service, or stations are served in the dining room.

Does Independence Harbor offer "Overtime"?

Whereas most Wedding Venues offer five hour reception periods, Independence Harbor provides a five and one half hour reception period for all events. Independence Harbor does not offer overtime hours to be added to those reception periods.

Independence Harbor will also be pleased to provide you with referrals on most wedding vendor services. We have had the pleasure of working with many talented people in our 48 years, and are fortunate to be able to pass these valuable resources on to our customers. From disc jockeys, photographers, florists, and cakemasters, to justices of the peace, ceremony musicians, horse drawn carriages, photobooth and uplighting vendors etc..The services referred by Independence Harbor are not required. They are however, highly recommended. We feel that is distinctly to your advantage to hire professionals, and especially those who are familiar with weddings, and more particularly with weddings at Independence Harbor.  Please review our Preferred Vendors list for more information.


Does Independence Harbor offer overnight accommodations?

Independence Harbor does not offer overnight accommodations. We are pleased to recommend several fine hotels which are close by for you and your guests.  Please review our Preferred Vendors list for more information.

Does Independence Harbor provide a wedding coordinator for each wedding?

Yes. Every wedding at Independence Harbor is overseen by one of our Wedding Directors, as well as our Food and Beverage Director. Each detail of your wedding is attended to by these experienced and courteous professionals.

Does Independence Harbor have a minimum purchase requirement to reserve the venue?

Independence Harbor accommodates gatherings up to 250 persons and guarantees the exclusive use of its entire 20 acre private estate to only one event at a time. The Independence Harbor's facilities are transformed for each event, whether for an intimate gathering of 75 or to a larger guest list of 200 plus. 
A Minimum Purchase is Established for All Events and is Determined by the Type of Event, Time of the Year, Day of the Week, Date, and Time of Day of the Event. The Minimum Purchase during "Off-Season" (November 16 through April 14) and on "Thursdays (Year 'Round)" is considerably lower than the Minimum Purchase on Weekends May through October.




How much does a wedding cost?

Independence Harbor offers one of the most inclusive and affordable "All Inclusive Wedding Packages" in Southern New England. Independence Harbor's pricing is always readily available on our website's "menus and pricing" pages.

The cost of an Independence Harbor wedding reception is determined by your menu selections as well as by the specific date reserved for your wedding. Independence Harbor's Wedding Planners will gladly provide you with an estimate for your wedding. 
The  "All Inclusive" Wedding Packages" Menu  offers four (4) pricing schedules providing a price for every budget.
Each pricing schedule is clearly defined by the time of year, day of the week and time of day on our "Menus and Pricing" pages.
